LiveCode began as an expert Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for MetaCard, a graphical user interface and development environment that supported UNIX, Windows and Mac. MetaCard built on the success of its predecessor HyperCard, recognized for its English-like language structure that was far easier to learn than BASIC. It was this plain-English syntax that attracted RunRev CEO Kevin Miller to use HyperTalk as a youth, and later acquire much of the technology in 2003.
