Happy Holidays!
A look back at 2010 and warm wishes of the season to you all

From the RunRev Team

Happy Holidays!

From all the team here at RunRev, to all our wonderful user community, we'd like to wish you a very happy holiday season! You are the people that make this platform what it is.

It's been a long year with many challenges, but we're delighted to be closing on such a high note with the release of LiveCode 4.5.3-rc-3 to members of our LiveCode Developer Program today. By far the biggest achievement this year has been to bring you all integrated iOS deployment in LiveCode, the programming language we all know and love.

There were certainly some bumps along the way this year, with Apple's shock rule change in April banning third party programming languages from the iPhone, followed by their equally sudden change of heart in September, allowing these platforms back in the game. Fortunately RunRev is a resilient and adaptable company, and we were able to immediately swing back into full production on the heels of that decision, with the happy outcome we have today. A bonus from this bout of swings and roundabouts was that while iOS was on hold, we were working like crazy on LiveCode Android, so we expect to be bringing you that in spring of next year.

Another notable change during this year was the move from Revolution to LiveCode as a product name and brand umbrella. This rebranding exercise has been a great success, rapidly adopted by you, our customers, and already bringing results in terms of searchability as well as clearly conveying our message more effectively to a whole new generation of users.

Our new website and store are a big part of the rebranding and its clear that the website is a hit, with ever expanding resources in the lessons area, more videos, updated tutorials and lots of easily accessible information about every aspect of LiveCode.

Although Mobile is the big story this year, we've brought many new features and polish to our desktop offerings, with special attention being paid to Linux support in 4.5. We expect to develop our web plugin and server offering next year as well as continuing with seamless support for Mac, Windows and Linux. Adding up all the platforms, we can now boast that LiveCode delivers on no fewer than 10 different platforms and devices!

What will 2011 bring? We have planned a veritable smorgasbord of features and new deployment options, from LiveCode 5 with optimized Unicode and the new Field Object, optimized and streamlined iOS support, through to Android support, work on Server and attention for the Web plugin. RunRevLive.11 will take place in April in San Jose - we hope to see you there. We're looking forward to it!

Over this holiday period we will be closed for the holidays between 23rd and 26th December 2010 inclusive. We will also close for the New Year from 1st January to 4th January 2011 inclusive. Between 27th and 31st December we will operate a reduced service. The website and online store will remain open for your convenience throughout the holiday season.

It only remains to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
