RunRevLive.11 Day One
What's in store for the first full day of the 2011 RunRevLive conference.

by Heather Nagey

We are of course delighted that we have launched the first release of Android in time for our RunRevLive.11 conference in April. This means that our Day Zero beginners course will now incorporate instructions to deploy to Android as well as iOS. Bring along your laptop and mobile device of your choice!

Robert CailliauSome of our favorite presenters will be returning this year. The outstanding Robert Cailliau (co-developer of the WWW) will be giving a session with the intriguing title "LiveCode, What Use Is It?" Robert indicates that the speed of development using LiveCode is such that it is often easier to write a program than to try using available applications. The talk highlights three important areas where LiveCode is outstanding: education, private use, utility development. Their use ranges from such trivialities as calculating typed arithmetic expressions to a pilot's flight plan preparation with an interactive aeronautical map. For each area a list of actual applications will be discussed, and one example will be taken for closer inspection. All of these applications are used in the private life of a long-time LiveCode addict. As we know from past conferences, M. Cailliau is always entertaining, and has a fascinating take on the world of software development. Trevor

Trevor DeVore returns with wisdom on Cloud iOS apps - how to gather data from the cloud and get it into your app. Trevor is the creator of the highly successful Screensteps and has previously given us excellent sessions on documenting your applications, as well as in depth knowledge about the DataGrid, and the applications of custom behaviours and controls. I'm looking forward to hearing from him again on the topical subject of Cloud iOS. He will also be speaking about LiveCode on the desktop.

I'm looking forward very much to hearing from Ken Ray. Not only is he giving a session on Day Zero, talking about Stykz, but he will also be talking on Day Two about Custom Controls, a must attend for any serious LiveCode developer. He will look at how to build custom controls, showing some he has already created and how they work, then he will build one on the fly during the presentation.

Andre Garzia will once again be sharing his enthusiasm for all things Server, and will also be presenting jointly with Chipp Walters on a Google Analytics Dashboard App. Richard Gaskin has promised us a session on LiveCode and Linux, taking advantage of all our recent advances on the Linux platform. All in all, I cannot wait to learn all the new things these experts will be teaching us.

Parallel to the main sessions we will be running code kitchens all day, where you can sit down with an expert and get one to one help, advice and tips on your specific code project. This is your opportunity to talk to our team, and to all the skilled presenters for RunRevLive.11 this year.

Plus, I haven't even begun to touch on what our in-house team have for you this year! I look forward to discussing that in the next edition of revUp.

If you still haven't got your ticket, you can buy it here.
