New Revolution Live Speaker Confirmed

by Jo Hernandez

I'm pleased to confirm joining us for Revolution Live 2008 (and back by popular demand) is the delightful Andre Garzia. For those of you, who had the chance to meet/speak with Andre, you will be aware of his infectious enthusiasm and entertaining stories and he promises me there is much for us all to catch up on!

Andre GarziaConfirmed Speaker: Andre Garzia

Talking about: Revolution on the Web

Andre Alves Garzia is a freelance software developer living in Niteroi, BRAZIL. He holds a BA in Social Communications with emphasis in Film Making and is also an undergrad of Computer Science where he is the only student to write his own Assembly interpreter for learning ASMx86 and thus pass Computer Architecture 101. Andre is an expert Runtime Revolution developer and has been a popular speaker in several RevCons talking about topics related to web application development.

Andre began coding at the age of 14 learning BASIC on his Dad's computer. He worked himself through lots of books and moved from BASIC to Pascal and then became a computer language enthusiast coding in Lisp, Scheme, Smalltalk, Pascal, Delphi, REBOL and others before settling with Runtime Revolution as his tool of choice. These days Andre uses Macintosh computers and Runtime Revolution to power his freelance web development contracts. Andre discovered Runtime Revolution when migrating from MacOS 9 to Mac OS X, during this switch he went shopping for some cross platform tool that enabled him to deliver products for any platform without leaving the comfort of his Mac OS X environment. After working himself through the tutorials, he was hooked. Runtime Revolution enables Andre to deliver tools for Macs, Windows, Linux and the Web from a single codebase, the very best production value ever.

Andre is a very active member of the RunRev community, always helping people in the mailing lists and offering hands on help during the conferences. He created RevOnRockets, a package of web development tools for Revolution that includes easy to use libraries, demos and a fully functional web server built with Revolution. His RevOnRockets package is available free of charge with all source code.

"RevOnRockets was created out of necessity. I needed a better way to develop web application from inside the Revolution IDE. I wanted to use the debugger, I wanted to use stacks, I wanted everything RunRev offers and I wanted to deploy on a server. This would be an enormous effort if I used another tool but with Revolution, I could not only create my own tools to help my development but have lots of fun at the same time."

CGI, RDBMS, FastCGI, CSS, XHTML and AJAX are the bread and butter of his daily activities. Andre has delivered e-commerce, database enabled, ajax powered sites, all done in Revolution.

"Revolution enables fast development. I can avoid the code-upload-explode-debug workflow that most web developers experience because I can work all the core routines from the comfort of the Revolution IDE. I am able to deal with all the recent technologies with ease because Revolution projects are very easy to maintain and don't add unecessary complexity to my projects. There's also a bonus because I can re-use code from web applications in desktop applications and vice versa. It's a win-win scenario for me. Try doing web development in VB.Net or doing desktop applications in JSP! Yes, Revolution is truly the code once, deploy anywhere, tool for me."

His web development tools are used in real world applications being accessed by thousands of users. When not coding (Does he ever stop coding?!), Andre enjoys books, movies and the sea.
