Share the Love: Help a prize winner get started with Revolution

by Heather Nagey

We want to hear what you think. This is your newsletter, after all, so we would like to introduce a section for reader responses. To kick this off to a good start, I recently interviewed Darek Kocurek, a competition winner of the Renderosity Christmas competition. Darek won a copy of Revolution Studio as his prize, but has not used Revolution before. Suggestions from readers as to what he might be able to do with Revolution, where he should start, and how it ties in to his multimedia interests would be very welcome, and interesting reading too. We will publish all responses on this subject in the next edition of the newsletter. You should reply to editor@runrev.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

Darek Kocurek's Revolution winning photo.

Congratulations on winning Revolution Studio in the Renderosity competition. Thank you for answering a few simple questions.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Darek Kocurek, and I'm from Poland. I work in computer graphics. My adventure with computer graphics started in the early 90's since I bought my first computer (an Amiga). Beside computers graphics I have been painting in oil & acrylic for several years, but unfortunately lately I have not much time for this. My other passion is digital photography, which I usually use to create my own fantastic vision and landscapes. I really take a lot of pictures :) My works concern usually fantasy and horror, I get my inspiration from the world around me and also books and films. For example I have done a series of illustrations for Stephen King books for the Stephen King Polish website. I very often say "I can't find places like that so I have to create it" You can see my works on my website. I hope my works can tell more about me.

What did you have to do to enter?

Rules of contest were simple. The contest was open for all registered users of renderosity.com. Every person submitted one photo which in his opinion illustrated the subject of contest, in this case Christmas around the world.

Why do you think you won?

Of course I didn't believe I would win. It was my first contest on renderosity.com, new user from faraway land, big competition. Renderosity is really a big gallery with a lot of users from the whole world. I didn't think I had a chance of winning, but my family and friends encouraged me to enter my picture. I made sure that my photo fulfilled 100% was up the contest rules to give me some chance.

What do you usually use software for?

I used to use many programs, but most of my computer graphics have been created in photoshop. It is fantastic software for photomanipulation and photoedition.

Had you heard of Revolution before entering this competition?

No, I hadn't. After the contest I have found information about Revolution Studio in a few Polish websites, but it not very much information, in my opinion too little. I asked all my friends from IT trade about it. Nobody knew about this software. It seems in my country Revolution is not so popular. Of course I will try change that situation :)

How do you think you might use Revolution?

I have to learn more about this software, as today it is quite unknown for me. I am thinking about some multimedia presentations and other graphics applications. For example I need to prepare simple games so perhaps Revolution Studio will be good for that.

Thanks very much for talking to us! I hope that some of our readers will have suggestions and tips for you to get started and find out what Revolution can do for you. Maybe even some of our Polish users will read this and get in touch...
