Introducing Mildred
Meet the latest addition to our team, Mildred Foo.

Mildred Foo interviewed by Heather Nagey

Hi, and welcome to Runrev! How are you finding your first few weeks here?

Hi, thanks so much! I'm really enjoying myself at RunRev. Everyone has been welcoming and it's such a dynamic place to be!

What exactly is your role in the company?

I'm Kevin's PA, which encompasses everything from all things office management to making sure he's fed and watered! More recently, I've been trying my hand at blog posting and copy writing which I've really developed a liking for so the possibilities are now endless.

What were you doing before you joined us?

Before joining RunRev, I spent 7 1/2 years in a public sector organisation mostly involved in Events Management, Contracting and Tendering with Supply Partners. I essentially started in a junior position and worked my way up which was a great way to understand the mechanics of the company and it has given me a well-rounded understanding of business and the bottom line.

I hear you've been following the Business Academy - how are you finding that?

The Business Academy is great! I decided to sign up as I thought that would be the best way to learn about LiveCode and understand our brand a little better. I'm not the most technical person around but I find the videos relatively easy to understand and eagerly await them everyday now.

Do you have any programming background?

Haha, just to put this into context – I studied Film, TV, and Radio Studies and then Social Anthropology in university so no, I can't say I've had much of a programming background at all!

So you must be finding all the geekspeak quite challenging...?

I have to say - the first month was slightly daunting being unfamiliar with all the jargon but I soon became best friends with Wikipedia and that's not let me down yet.

What are you finding the most interesting aspect of your job so far?

I love the variety of my job, no day is ever the same. It also helps that I've got the opportunity to try different things so there are no limits to what I can learn and do everyday which keeps me constantly challenged and interested.

And the most difficult?

Coming from a structured background where everything in my previous job had a process and we were constantly evaluated, it has been a nice change to work in a more creative environment. However, that in itself is perhaps what I've found difficult as I've had to adjust my mindset and almost learn to relax a little.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Food and Travel are my two vices. I'm originally from Singapore which is a melting pot of cultures so I'm always up for trying something new and experimenting with my food. As for travel, what was meant to be a short stay in the UK has turned into an ongoing 12 year affair when I realised that the world is much bigger than my tiny island state. No year is ever complete now without visiting a new place and broadening my horizon. It was Alaska last year and at some point, I will make it to Antarctica!

Most importantly, how are you getting along with the office mascot, Tio?

Tio is a sweetheart, it was love at first sight! He has such a great personality and we have now progressed to the sleeping on my lap stage so I'm well chuffed!

Tio

That's great! Thanks for taking the time to talk to me, I'll let you get back to the very important task of Organising Kevin now!
