LiveCode BuildAnApp Showcase 2010
From inception to the AppStore in a couple of weeks

by Ben Beaumont

buildanappIn the run up to the final launch, LiveCode iOS is providing a new way for developers and enthusiasts alike to create true iPhone and iPad apps with unparalleled ease and efficiency. It sounds good but is this just 'marketing speak' or does LiveCode live up to all the hype? Is LiveCode really the fastest way to produce mobile Apps? Is it really possible to test out that App idea of yours in a few hours? One sunny afternoon at RunRev's head office in Scotland the suggestion was made that we put LiveCode to the test, sharing the entire experience right through from inception to AppStore acceptance. What better way is there to find out if this tool is all it claims to be and if it's for you than to see it in action! So we would like to invite you to join us and follow along as we take on this challenge. We want you to get involved at every stage of our BuildAnApp project. This is our brief:

"Build a useful/desirable iOS app to the highest of standards for acceptance into the Apple AppStore. The entire process should be documented at every stage from inception, design, implementation, testing and polishing and through to submission. The project should take just a few weeks".

Myself and Michael were keen to take on the challenge. We'll be joined by one of our colleagues Neil who will be your eyes and ears throughout the process with all three of us posting thoughts, sketches, design files, source code, videos and anything else that helps us to share the whole experience with you. Be a part of our team for the next few weeks via our BuildAnApp blog! If you're not already subscribed to this blog you can do so here.

We are really looking forward to working on this and we would love you to get involved as well. Please send your thoughts, suggestions and comments on any aspect of the project to buildanapp@runrev.com. You may even find that you help to shape the direction of the entire project!

Until next time,

Ben, Michael and Neil.
