EuroRevCon Presentation: Art, Design and Revolution

by Scott Rossi

Europe has always been considered the center of classical art, so as a
designer, I am quite enthusiastic about participating in RevConMalta this
year. What better place to discuss art, design and Revolution!

At my conference session, we will discuss methods that can be used to create
beautiful graphic interface solutions for Revolution stacks. While I will
focus primarily on Revolution, 3rd party tools, such as Photoshop and
Fireworks, will be touched upon as well. I was also asked to discuss
inspiration: where can we get ideas for designing Revolution stacks? And
once an interface "masterpiece" has been created, what is best way to make
it work in Revolution? These are some of the issues we will address.

With the release of Vista just around the corner, the bar for visually rich
UI design will again be raised to new level. It is important to start
looking at our applications to see how they fit into the "scheme" of things,
in terms of look-and-feel. No doubt, the default Vista appearance will
imbue our stacks with a certain aesthetic, but is it possible to create an
alternative user experience when Vista still has the shrink wrap on the
package?

And of course, while talking about interface, the possibilities of custom
window shapes must also be reviewed. Revolution offers many interesting
design possibilities using custom window shapes -- think widgets, gadgets
and gizmos -- thus several tips and techniques will be shared, along with
examples. All in all, this promises to be a fun, informative and visually
rich session!

I am looking forward to meeting the "European Revolution Contingent" in
picturesque Malta, many of whom I know only by email posts, and hope to see
you there too.
