What's coming, going and ongoing in the LiveCode World

By Heather Laine

Featured App: HexThello

Dave Probert wrote a complete iPad game (from idea to App store submission) in just a week using Livecode. The actual approval process took longer than the time it took to write the code!

The game is HexThello - a 2 player boardgame based on the 'Reversi/Othello' type of rules, but using a hexagonal grid instead of the usual squares. This gives it an added extra two directions of action and requires a little more thought during play. The game has three modes: two player, one player, and even no player - the program plays itself.

Dave explained "LiveCode provides a medium that was quick to produce a prototype of the game, and then to enhance and develop the final working product in just a few days. The cleaning up and testing was another couple of days. For the most part it was quite a painless process. For anyone out there who is looking at creating a 2D game and wants a lot of control over the precise action, then Livecode is a good solution."

Nice work Dave, very impressive. And a nice little game too!

eBook Academy ShipseBook Academy

For some time now Neil Roger has been hard at work creating the promised eBook Academy, teaching you how to make an interactive media rich ebook. It is now complete, and you can see the whole thing here. If you backed us on Kickstarter for £70 or more, or you chose this as your reward at the £33 level, you will have got this free. Let us know if you didn't get your notification email telling you how to add it to your account. For your convenience you can read the first lesson in article 4 of this newsletter.

Neil is now working on the Cloud/DB Academy, and we expect to ship this in the next few weeks.

On-Rev Server Move
Our operation to move on-rev hosting accounts from our old and rather tired servers onto shiny new servers is almost complete. We are greatly looking forward to finishing this long and intricate process, and look forward to bringing you a much improved on-rev hosting service in the near future.

San Diego
Our website for the RunRevLive.14 San Diego conference is starting to take shape. We've begun to work out the schedule, based on feedback from previous conferences. We know that you love the one to one sessions with our engineers, so these are now a fixture for RunRevLive. We will be running two main speaker tracks, one with the "Best Practice" title reserved for presenters from the community, and one "Special Interest" track where gurus from inside and outside RunRev will share expertise with you. If you have a topic you would like to suggest, or even would like to present a session, please do get in touch.
