RevCon West 2006: A Preview of the Event June 14-17, Monterey, CA USA

by Dan Shafer

RevCon West 2006 to Focus on Practical Application Development

If it were a circus, the center pole of the Big Top would be about to go up. If it were a parade, all the floats would be lining up, bands tuning up, people setting up chairs along the route.

But it’s neither a circus nor a parade, though it has some of the flavor of both. It’s RevCon West 2006, set to kick off in beautiful Monterey, California in the middle of June. The main event is set for Friday and Saturday, June 16-17, at the Monterey Conference Center. However there are pre- and post- events planned as well. On Wednesday, June 14, when a two- day hands-on tutorial session begins under the able tutelage of Devin Asay of Brigham Young University.

Following the two-day main event is a one-day optional gathering which will focus on in-depth treatment of advanced topics as well as an opportunity to hear a detailed product technical briefing from Runtime Revolution CEO Kevin Miller.

The two-day main conference is the big draw, though. Sponsors RevCentral Newsletter and Runtime Revolution Ltd. have put together a wall-to-wall, morning-til-night series of sessions that will enable you to upgrade your practical Revolution design and development skills with some of the most experienced developers in the Revolution universe.

Sessions begin both days at 9 a.m. and don’t end until 6:30 p.m. And then after the sessions end in the evening, there will be Birds of a Feather sessions into the wee hours of the morning for those who are gluttons for knowledge, and a thriving Monterey resort town night life scene for those who prefer a different kind of entertainment. It’s not too late to get in on the action and the fun. Go to www.revconwest.com and see the details. Sign up now for the conference and get not only all of this amazing knowledge, but also a bundle of goodies including:

  • a complementary 256MB USB thumb drive with the handsome RevCon West logo…a place to store the other goodies you’ll be getting in Monterey
  • a five-user license for the highly regarded Valentina Office Server that connects cleanly and effortlessly with Revolution
  • a copy of the newly released Revolution Media ($49 value)
  • a copy of altSubversion for Mac/PC/Linux
  • a copy of Daniels & Mara’s Galaxy Free IDE
  • a copy of Daniels & Mara’s Image Store

In addition, there will be dozens of stacks and applications distributed by the 14 speakers who are conducting 26 sessions over the two days of the conference. (That’s five more sessions than last year, an inaugural event which drew rave reviews from everyone who attended.)

Here are just a few of the highlights of the two-day conference’s jam-packed schedule:

  • Activities kick off both days with special keynote addresses. To begin Friday’s day of technical content, Dan Shafer, co-founder of RevCentral and the author of the only books published about Revolution, will deliver the opening keynote, “The State of the Revolution.” On Saturday, RunRev CEO Kevin Miller will provide the keynote address.
  • Jerry Daniels and Trevor DeVore will present a back-to-back session entitled “From Zero to App in Two Sessions.”
  • Ken Ray will share “More COol Things You Can Do With Revolution”
  • Jeanne Devoto and Jacque Gay will teach you how to “Master the Debugger”

  • QuickTime gets doubled-up, back-to-back treatment Saturday morning from Scott Rossi and Trevor DeVore Andre Garzia, assisted by Altuit’s Chris Bohnert, will demonstrate (and give away) some amazing Internet technology he’s been developing in Revolution.

There will be two in-depth case studies of architecture of live applications, one by Ken Ray and one by Richard Gaskin. Database will also be covered in two back-to-back sessions presented by Trevor DeVore and Jan Schenkel. Saturday afternoon wraps up with a panel that promises to help you learn to “Market Your Finished Rev Applications” featuring Lynn Fredricks of Runtime Revolution, Chipp Walters and Richard Gaskin, with Dan Shafer as moderator.
