The Information Revolution
How to become a Revolution Savant

by Heather Nagey

Working in support, I'm often asked questions like "Where can I find information on ..." or "Can Revolution do ..." or "How would I achieve...". You might be surprised to know how much information is actually readily available to you, either built in to the program, on our website, or in the printed documentation.

Information is only useful if you can actually find it when you need it! Publication ofRevolution Dictionary the Revolution Dictionary marks another milestone in the provision of extensive, up-to-date and varied resources for Revolution programmers. Having printed books at your elbow when you are working can be the most efficient way of finding something you need and referring to it while you are programming. You can now get both the User Guide for 3.0 and the Dictionary in print, as well as a pdf download.

Of course, printed materials are not all you need, or even the best way to get information all the time. Version 3 introduces the Resource Center, a single window where you can view and access a wide variety of learning materials. There are video tutorials, text tutorials, and forums where you can talk to other Revolutionaries. To help you find your way around the Resource Center, we have created a video tour.

One of the best kept secrets is the Revolution Search Engine. This is accessed from under the Help menu, and you can use it to search external Revolution related sites for tips, tricks and third party tutorials. It can be a life saver if you have a specific problem which someone else has already solved.

To show you around the new Script Editor, there is another video tour:

If you are reading this, you already know about the revUP Newsletter! This publication is a great resource for indepth tutorials as well as keeping you in touch with what's going on in the community. There is an archive of all previous newsletters which is well worth checking through if you have something specific you want information on.

You may not be aware of the Developer section on our website. This again has a raft of tutorials available, as well as listing related sites where you can find third party help.

Do you know of a Revolution related website not listed in our directory? Would you perhaps like to contribute a technical article to revUP? Contact us, we'd love to hear from you!
