New Face in Support Team
Welcoming Neil Roger to the Technical Support team for LiveCode

Neil Roger interviewed by Heather Nagey

Neil has worked for RunRev for some time now, and has just moved position to join the support team. He's a great guy, full of enthusiasm and the desire to help. I'd like to introduce him to you so you can get to know him.

Welcome Neil! So, how long have you worked for RunRev?
Hi Heather, I have been part of the RunRev family now for over 4 years although it feels like I started yesterday.

What kind of work have you done to date?
Prior to my new role as Tech Support and Content Lead I worked on a major project for a language learning company called Eurotalk. Alongside that I have produced all of the promotional video content for RunRev, worked on the academy videos, filmed/streamed the RunRev conferences and produced the conference DVDs.

Tell us about your experience with the RunRevLive videos - I understand you have an extensive knowledge of this footage…

Creating videos for RunRev is a fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable challenge. The footage and edits have to be engaging and must be able to grasp my attention which in turn will grasp the users. With each video I create, my knowledge of LiveCode grows that little bit more and hopefully soon I will be able to create my own multi-million dollar app :) Filming and editing the videos from RunRevLive meant I watched every session at least 4 times... I definitely absorbed a lot of LiveCode knowledge from that particular project!

I believe you've written your own LiveCode app previously?
Yes, I've dabbled in LiveCode previously and successfully created my own desktop app, Target IP. Basically, Target IP is a theft prevention program. It automatically emails a user their IP address once their computer is switched on. Collectively the app has had over 1000 downloads.

It's a simple app and it was easy to write in LiveCode.

So how are you finding your first week in the technical support team?
The first week has been great. The team I work with are fantastic and have been helping me out with some of the more advanced questions that come in. I still have a lot to learn but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

What is the most interesting problem you've been asked to solve so far?
There are many support questions that come in and it's quite hard to pick out specific ones. Although one that does stick in the mind is a support ticket from a younger user of LiveCode. He has been building a mobile app for his school which shows various information such as timetables and maps. It's a fantastic little app and I was glad to be able to help.

What is the best piece of feedback you've received so far?
There has been a lot of positive feedback so some examples are - 'Thank You, Thank you Thank You' (I think he was happy), 'I very much appreciate the quick turn around' and 'Thank you ever so much for your help'. So far, so good...

Is there a recurring issue you are helping people with at the moment?
There is a small issue with deploying to iOS 6 from Livecode 5.5.2 that will be fixed in LiveCode 5.5.3, to be released shortly. Also Xcode 4.5 not having the iOS 5.1 SDK does throw some users off. To solve this Xcode 4.4 is available to download from

What are your interests outside work?
Outwith the office I enjoy spending time with my fiance, Tasha and being a general geek about the house. This includes building/repairing computers, playing xbox and fueling my cable addiction by purchasing every cable imaginable. I also enjoy taking my Jack Russell dog 'Pancake' for walks.
