Turing Festival
Watch Kevin Miller build an app in 3 minutes, live at the Turing Festival

By Caroline Finlay

"Everyone can Create Apps", Kevin Millar, CEO, Run Rev speaking at the Interactive Scotland @ Turing Festival 2012 from Interactive Scotland on Vimeo.

Everyone knows that the Edinburgh festival is the largest festival of the arts in the world and has been running for over 60 years. The Turing Festival is a recent addition to the Edinburgh Festival and is the technology component to this internationally renowned festival. The Festival ran over 3 days and included everything from Steve Wozniak - who is a testament to technology as an art form - in a mock interview session which gave him the chance to tell amusing stories, to Mr Higgs himself talking about his use of technology at CERN.

Kevin was delighted to be invited to speak at the Turning Festival to introduce LiveCode to a very large group of well seasoned developers. Kevin took to the stage and told the audience that using LiveCode he would develop an app to run on an iPad. The app would view the audience and randomly select someone who would be the lucky winner of a free copy of LiveCode - and he would do this live on stage and in 3 minutes to a stop watch. Kevin achieved this with 9 seconds to spare.

Whilst this was a bit of fun Kevin used this opportunity to state his commitment to LiveCode in Education as the ideal way to teach students how to program computers and develop their own software apps. He was delighted that many of the students from schools in Edinburgh, who are using LiveCode, were able to join him at the festival to experience the wonder of technology and see first hand the art of the possible.

Some schools are going into their third year of teaching LiveCode to student and without exception all have reported an increase in class sizes, by as much as 100% in some cases, as well an increase in high exam pass rates.
