What's going on in the LiveCode World

If you would like to meet us in the flesh, the next event we will be attending is the Scottish Learning Festival, on 19th and 20th September, in the SECC in Glasgow. You can see us in the Exhibition hall, on stand C7. This major education event in Scotland has been running for 11 years now, and getting bigger every year. From their website:

The Scottish Learning Festival is about teaching and learning and offers a number of opportunities to enhance the education profession by providing:

  • inspiration and new ideas
  • an opportunity to network with peers
  • a range of options to enhance the learning and teaching experience for all.

Phidgets
Recently, I was cruising the web looking for new and interesting things about LiveCode, and I came across Phidgets. What's a phidget I hear you ask? Well, they say

"Phidgets are a set of "plug and play" building blocks for low cost USB sensing and control from your PC. "

Very good, sounds interesting, but why get all excited about them (other than of course robots are cool)? Turns out, you can use your favorite programming language, LiveCode, to run your phidgetry! One of our users has provided an API and a set of instructions to get your very own robot up and running using LiveCode. I'd love to know who this person is, and find out more about what they have done and plan to do in the future - so if you are Mr or Ms Phidget, get in touch!

Videos
Another interesting resource you may not have come across, is a set of free videos from Obleo Beck, showing you how to do some useful things in LiveCode:

There are six videos, covering topics from creating a custom scrollbar to basic mobile programming. Worth checking out!
