Why YOU should be at RunRevLive.11
The benefits of live conferences versus online or digital meetings

by Heather Nagey

In this digital age of video conferencing and online webinars, you might think that the value of physically travelling to a venue and spending several days in a conference hall listening to real people talking has decreased. Why spend all that time, money and effort when you could stay at home and get it all delivered by computer screen and telephone wire?

Well, lets see:

  • Can you count on getting your questions answered in a Webinar? Or have you, like me, had the experience that only a very limited number of questions can be addressed in any given session, and the ones that are answered are those chosen by the presenter?
  • Can you get the presenter of an online Webinar to sit down with you personally afterwards for an hour and go through the material? Or work through a related problem with you that you want to understand?
  • Have you ever had the presenter in a live theatre go fuzzy around the edges, flicker, or even disappear altogether?
  • Can you converse with your fellow attendees in a Webinar? Or arrange to meet for dinner afterwards to discuss and maybe even close that serious business deal you just discovered you could do together?

Of course, I'm not saying video doesn't have a place - and if you can't be there in person, attending RunRevLive via the live Simulcast is the next best thing. But if you can be there, its an experience that you cannot get digitally. You will learn things you didn't know you didn't know. You will discover opportunities you never thought about before. You will have the chance to talk to real live experts and put your specific questions. You will meet with a bunch of like minded developers who really understand your issues and may have interesting solutions of their own they can share with you. We run code kitchens all day every day, where you can sit down with your laptop and someone who really knows what they are talking about, and get a personal walkthrough of something that is troubling you or you find difficult.

RunRevLive 2011 is going to be all about Mobile. We'll be running beginner courses starting with zero and ending with a working LiveCode App on your iPhone, iPad or iPod. We will have indepth sessions showing the plusses and pitfalls of programming for Mobile - and of course we'll also have sessions on every other aspect of the LiveCode platform, from desktop to Web to Server. There is simply no other venue available where you can learn so much in such a short time about every aspect of programming in LiveCode.

And lets not forget the NDA day. Here you have the opportunity to hear from the CEO Kevin Miller and the CTO Mark Waddingham all about the path ahead. What we are planning to do over the next twelve months or so. What features we expect to implement. You sign a confidentiality agreement to get in to this session, and the information you get here you cannot get anywhere else. If your business is programming, you can't afford not to be there.

We've been doing these conferences for a few years now. We always ask for feedback afterwards. The result is overwhelmingly positive. 92% of those responding to our 2009 post conference survey said they would attend a future conference. Of course, we've had suggestions for improvements we could make, ideas for the next one and so on, most of which we take on board - which should make 2011 the best one yet - but the real proof of just how valuable these conferences are is in the attendee list. People come back. At the last conference, the most frequent feedback I got at the end of it was "When is the next one going to be? I want to buy my ticket now!"

If your business uses LiveCode, if you can see the potential of the Mobile platform and want to hit the ground running, if you want to take advantage of the amazing networking opportunities offered by being there in person, then you need to get your ticket to LiveCode Everywhere, the RunRevLive 2011 conference in San Jose, California from 26th to 29th April 2011. To be sure of a place, you need to get it soon, as we have already sold two thirds of the available tickets.

I hope to see you there!

Just waiting for you
